Our History
From 2013 to 2015, Nevada Land Trust and Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, with Truckee River Fund, Western Regional Water Commission, and National Park Service support, brought together over 130 local stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities along the Truckee River. Over the course of many collaborative, in-depth meetings, retreats, and forums, they developed the One Truckee River Management Plan, Phase I. The One Truckee River Management Plan recommends actions to create a sustainable, clean, and thriving river and inspire a community that recognizes the river in their hearts and minds.
In 2016, the One Truckee River Management Plan was unanimously adopted by Washoe County, City of Reno, City of Sparks, and the Western Regional Water Commission. Then, the implementation work began. In 2017, the One Truckee River Partnership Council determined nine action items as having the highest priority. To date, four of those nine priority action items have been completed.
In 2020, with similar missions, the Truckee River Foundation and One Truckee River joined forces to implement the One Truckee River Management Plan.

Land Recognition
We give acknowledgement of the Truckee River and the land surrounding it as the home to three Great Basin Tribes - the Paiute, the Shoshone, and the Washoe. Since time immemorial, Native people living near the Truckee River have honored it for its culturally and spiritually significant to them and their way of life.
