Initial Stakeholder Meeting #3

Wow, we can't believe summer is almost over! We have been so busy getting this One Truckee River Initiative off the ground. . . planning meetings, working on and updating the website and social media, and really just trying to start conversations about protecting our river. And considering the group of people we've initially gathered to discuss the plan, we think we're doing a pretty good job!Last Wednesday was our third initial stakeholder meeting. (Make sure you read all about meetings one and two!) Turnout for these meetings is as good as ever. The meeting began at 11:35 a.m., and after the usual round-the-table introductions, Alex, the environmental steward intern, updated the group on the survey, the website, and social media. From there, National Park Service rep Barbara introduced a draft work plan to the group. At this point, Lynda took the reins to talk about the stakeholder forum on Sept. 30. A potential agenda was passed out and logistics were discussed, including summarizing the event, contenders for a presentation to start off the forum, and the role of the facilitators. It's important to note that the One Truckee River Initiative is planning on presenting the plan and basic information at an upcoming council meeting this fall. A few people at the meeting on Wednesday felt something like that should happen, and NLT co-director Alicia explained this was already in motion. One of the most important parts of the meeting was a return-and-report from captains/co-captains of each of the nine issues. A representative for each group spoke about those they'd been in contact with, and asked for further contact suggestions. These contacts will ideally be present at the stakeholder forum to discuss strategies for each issue. Finally, after a short break, there was the issue breakdown. Each issue had already been broken down a little bit, but not with the entire core planning team present. Each issue was looked at and added to, resulting in. . .It was suggested during the meeting that lines connecting the appropriate issues be drawn. Because almost every issue is related, we came up with something like this:arrowsA PDF list of the above graphs can be found here. The official minutes can be found here. The meeting ended at 1:35 p.m.
